Check out 22 of the best New Years cartoons from a great selection of cartoonists.
From Denny: Before you go out to celebrate the New Year with all that dancing and champagne sipping, linger here long enough to get a good laugh! Think of all the funny things you will have to talk about with your friends and family tonight. :) Check out some of the links at the bottom of the post too as I've put together some entertaining goodies.
Apologies to those of you who came looking for last year's New Year's cartoons. I'm just now discovering along with you that many of the cartoonists do not continue to support their cartoon embed codes after a year. Bummer. So I went looking, OK, scouring the web, to find the latest cartoon goodies for you to enjoy.
This is my second year of blogging and I want to take the time to thank all of you for your incredible support and deluge of response on all my blogs! What a pleasure it has been to explore the world, the web and write for you.
Happy New Year and may you be happy, healthy and prosperous!
Dishing out spicy liberal social commentary and critical thinking news analysis on America, world politics, the news, fun political humor, cartoons - and a little poetry by Independent journalist blogger Denny Lyon.

New Years: Funny Quotes, Resolutions Tips, Poems
Start your New Year off right with lots of laughter and some smart advice on meeting those New Year resolutions.
From Denny: Before you stay up all night to ring in the New Year, swill some good champagne and watch the fireworks on TV, catch a laugh here. I rounded up the best and funniest quotes about the New Year. Enjoy some New Year's poems too.
New Years Quotes
* New Year's Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. - Mark Twain
* Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to. - Bill Vaughan
* New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions. - Mark Twain
* The proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates on New Year's Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person you're married to. - P. J. O'Rourke
* Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average... which means, you have met your New Year's resolution. - Jay Leno
* Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go. - Brooks Atkinson
* New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time. - James Agate
* An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. - Bill Vaughan
* Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits. - Anonymous
* May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions! - Joey Adams

Poll: Most Admired People For 2010
Check out the most admired people in America for 2010. How do Hillary, Oprah and Palin rank?
How do Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin rank?
From Denny: Check out the recent Gallup Poll lately? Guess who are the most admired people of 2010? You would be correct if you guessed President Obama as the most admired man in America. Obama, now the 44th president, was listed as the most admired man in America back in 2008 and 2009 too. So far, Obama has risen above the usual iconic religious leaders and former presidents.
*** Be sure to check out the links in the post as it's some interesting reading on their biographies and accomplishments.

Arrested WikiLeaks Founder Signs Tell All $1.3 Million Book Deal
Rape, treason and information-dealing pay off for WikiLeaks Assange.
From Denny: Well, Assange just can't seem to stay out of the headlines. This guy must be a media exhibitionist. Now he's whining how he isn't rich enough to pay his own legal fees? This guy is supposed to be a billionaire. So, where did all his money go?
Apparently, Founder Assange is worried he can't keep his WikiLeaks "whistle blower" site running. Why? He says it is running out of cash since Paypal, MasterCard and Visa quit allowing payment donations through their sites to the WikiLeaks site. Assange states he has lost as much as $650,000 since the three sites blocked his donors. Get this: Assange was raking in as much as $130,000 a day in pure untaxed donations to the tune of almost $4 million per month before the financial crackdown. What a sweet con. And now it looks like the wild ride is over.

Funny Life and Christmas Cartoons - 25 Dec 2010
Check out the most recent funny Santa cartoons along with some cracked cartooning minds.
From Denny: This year the cartoonists outdid themselves when it came to Santa interpretations. Is there anything, anyone or any situation they did not consider? These guys have some of the funniest perspectives on how we live from moment to moment. It's like we are all in a glass cage and they are on the other side observing, laughing and doodling to their heart's content. :)

Funny Christmas Cartoons
Check out the irreverent cartoonist offerings for the holiday season.
From Denny: Have you ever noticed how gift giving is always related to crafty politicians? They gift to their rich donors and take from those in need. So when holiday season comes around every year cartoonists are quick on the uptake to notice and offer their observations.
Of course, with the growing need of everyone to be plugged into technology the tech cartoons are growing in abundance too. Santa has to get in the act when it comes to social media.

GOP Grinch Refuse Healthcare to 911 Responders, Dems Say YES to Pass Bill
Saying yes to American heroes from 911. They deserve proper health care and our respect and compassion in their last days.
From Denny: If this isn't the Hall of Shame for America and the world. Especially the financial sector like Wall Street which was the intended target of the terrorists who did absolutely nothing for the 911 responders who rescued. gave aid comfort and closure to countless thousands and their families in America and around the world.
Jon Stewart sat down with four responders who are all dying of heart-lung diseases and various cancers because of the horrific toxic exposure. It was President Bush and his administration that declared the air quality to be safe for rescuers. Yet now we find these same courageous people to be dying slowly from exposure from the Twin Towers devastated site. Where is former President Bush now when these 911 responders need him? Answer: silent.

72 Posts Roundup at Dennys Blogs - 20 Dec 2010
Check out news analysis, political humor, funny quotes, funny videos, cartoons, recipes, science news, music and poetry.
From Denny: This is about three week's worth of posts. Be sure to check out this post over at the science blog, The Soul Calendar, for the rare 500 year total lunar eclipse coinciding with the Winter Solstice tonight. I like to write my science with a bit of wit. It's so much easier to absorb facts when the writing is funny.
Also, lots of funny videos, comedy, jokes from the late night comedians lampooning the news and our crazy Congress. Their idea of "logic" is questionable sometimes. :)
For the Christmas and holiday season there are plenty of music videos to soothe the stress after rushing around shopping and visiting.
I've also started developing the arts blog, Dennys Art Sanctuary. It has been languishing far too long. The plan is to feature various artists along with the arts news.
What's also new is that I've started gathering all my poetry onto one blog, Poems From A Spiritual Heart. There are even poems there that have not posted on The Social Poets first.
So, take a look around, decompress, and enjoy yourself! Thank You for all your support this year. It's been a delight to write for you! What a wild ride! :)
The Social Poets: news and political humor

What Is The Truth About Unemployment In America?
Check out the status of unemployment across America and how high the figure is for the long term unemployed.
From Denny: The reality is that the recent tax cuts bill that was signed by President Obama on Friday only reinstates and extends unemployment insurance to about one million people. That's it.
The 99ers
Remember all those who have been unemployed for so long - past the two year mark and many for as long as four years - now called The 99ers because they exhausted their 99 weeks of available benefits? There are literally millions of them, perhaps as many as seven million by now. Every month there are an additional two million added to their roles. Though the statistics are sketchy and infrequent it's believed The 99ers make up at least 10 percent of the unemployed.
Most 99ers over age 50
Never mind that most of The 99ers are older Baby Boomers, there are those under age 45, many are well past age 50. They have paid unemployment insurance from their paychecks every month, every year, for decades. Now, in their time of need, their own government and politicians turn a deaf ear to them. How long before you, a relative or someone close to you enters their unhappy ranks? And we wonder why we see so much violence on the news every night, as a larger and larger segment of American society grows more desperate?
Economists seem to think maybe the economy is turning around because of the number of initial unemployment claims have trended downward by 400,000 this past month. Let's hope they are correct on their judgment call because this economy has already shed eight million jobs during this so-called "recession."

Crazy Week of American Politics Cartoons - 18 Dec 2010
What a political week. Now check out how the cartoonists lampooned it all.
From Denny: Obama hitchhiking off President Bill Clinton's popularity to pull his fanny out of the fire on this disliked Bush Tax Cuts extension. The White House and a recent poll tried to claim that 70 percent of Americans approved of the tax cuts plan when just last week they disapproved by 70 percent. When you read the poll you find that Independents are two-thirds former Republicans and two-thirds of them wanted the plan along with an overwhelming majority of Republicans. Democrats were against the plan by 54 percent. What broke down inside the polls is that Republicans and Independents don't give a rat's butt about the unemployed and did not want unemployment benefits extensions. What they wanted were tax cuts extensions for the rich. Democrats wanted the opposite - in favor of unemployment benefits vs. against the tax cuts for the rich:

17 Christmas Music and Fun Videos
Enjoy some popular and traditional sacred music for the Christmas season, along with some funny holiday flash mob videos.
From Denny: A person could spend a lifetime sifting through all the offerings over at YouTube and be happy. What fun to explore, looking for interesting Christmas music to fit a wide variety of reader interests.
Here are the offerings I've gleaned for this year. The first song, YouTube sudden viral hit, is from a newcomer, Becky Kelley, whose father wrote the song after Becky related a conversation from her nephew while they were standing in line to see Santa at the mall. It's their first published song, a real shock to the music industry who came asking for more of their work. I guess they had better get busy. :)
And now you have plenty here to help you stress down from the holiday rush, make you laugh, and even get you pumped back up feeling inspired.
Music Video: Wheres The Line To See Jesus? by Becky Kelley - Check out the newest addition to Christmas music this season born out of a true story - and a YouTube viral hit.
Music Video: Mary, Did You Know? By Clay Aiken - When you need some inspiration to lift your spirits or soothe your nerves during the holiday rush.

Gordon Brown Book: 9 Big Banks Manipulating World Economy
Check out the crooked world of global banking.
From Denny: Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown brings into focus the world economic meltdown in his latest book "Beyond The Crash: Overcoming The First Crisis of Globalisation." This video clip is the extended interview and also an exclusive one with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.
Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown Exclusive Interview
The revelations of inept government and banking officials is astounding here. Government leaders around the world assumed that bankers were professionals and actually knew and understood the banking system. According to PM Brown, apparently bankers from renowned global Big Banks admitted to not understanding the concept of how to calculate financial risk. That's like saying you don't understand the concept of burning yourself if you put your hand into the roaring fire. Unbelievable.

The International Spy poem - Libations Monday 13 Dec 2010
Step into the world of the spy and witness the effect they have upon the people they meet - until one day they meet someone who poignantly affects them. A true story from my travels - and childhood.
The International Spy
A strange man sat down to talk
Acting like a best friend
His way was too familiar
He stirred a distant memory
Words he spoke stepped careful
Thoughts he said trotted calculated
Attitude sailed smooth, controlling
Clutching analytical mental paper
He placed me under his microscope
Probing for easy weaknesses
Character flaws to his advantage
Confident I had no strengths, too sure
The top dress of a spy is arrogance
Flattery he carried in his pocket
Revealing more about him than me
An aging man, shadow of a vibrant self
He talked on oblivious to my notice
Curious about my hotel choice in Europe
He inquired as to my reasoning for it
The days of the microscopic life flew
Back into my mind from childhood
Where I had grow up in this ugly world
Of the intelligence community gone bad
Cruel insensitive people studied children
And wives like we were things not people
Most cared not about us, a few felt pangs
Of terrible guilt for their meanest wrongs
I knew exactly what I had in front of me
As I vacationed in Europe for culture
When I was studied as a child I studied them
People are as interesting as they can be cruel
I considered what to say and measured my words
Knowing all would be recorded as infinite detail
This man was not here for what he presumed
Following up on a CIA child to recruit and destroy
What he never calculated was decades had passed
Training in all manners of wisdom was mine
So I let him engage to watch it all unfold and
He drank 8 shots of whiskey a glass as show
He drank all night, the bar owner glanced at me
I motioned to pour on and the old man drank
Like a lot of spies he learned how to drink
And sober up no matter how much he drank
Observe a sleepiness and then a head jerk
His eyes and speech would clear and sober again
He had mastered his body’s reaction
But still his emotional heart was raw
He was angry I would not match his drinks
Angry he could not intimidate nor bully
I spent the night repeating “No, thanks”
A woman waiting patiently for his real story
The questions he asked gave me information
I returned his questions with questions
Answering his while I led through the labyrinth
He had methodically constructed to trap me
He talked for hours long into the night
He worked hard to unbalance me
So I let him see my anger at his kind
I let him know the damage he had done
I unloaded condemnation and judgment
And the fury in his eyes threw daggers
As he watched his speech, I stood firm
Hurling words to pierce his hard heart
He had stepped into a hornet’s nest
And tried to calm and redirect but there
Was no going back, his words stumbled
As he tried to regain control never owned
I left him to ponder his inner fool that night
He showed up early the next morning
Humbler, still tenacious to fulfill his mission
Intervening, the awareness finally jumped him
It was never about me that night
He met himself reflected in my eyes
He was at the end of his long life
And now he realized why it had always
Felt
Wrong

He was angry I would not match his drinks
Angry he could not intimidate nor bully
I spent the night repeating “No, thanks”
A woman waiting patiently for his real story
The questions he asked gave me information
I returned his questions with questions
Answering his while I led through the labyrinth
He had methodically constructed to trap me
He talked for hours long into the night
He worked hard to unbalance me
So I let him see my anger at his kind
I let him know the damage he had done
I unloaded condemnation and judgment
And the fury in his eyes threw daggers
As he watched his speech, I stood firm
Hurling words to pierce his hard heart
He had stepped into a hornet’s nest
And tried to calm and redirect but there
Was no going back, his words stumbled
As he tried to regain control never owned
I left him to ponder his inner fool that night
He showed up early the next morning
Humbler, still tenacious to fulfill his mission
Intervening, the awareness finally jumped him
It was never about me that night
He met himself reflected in my eyes
He was at the end of his long life
And now he realized why it had always
Felt
Wrong

WikiLeaks, Obama Tax Cuts, Political Humor - 11 Dec 2010
More Santa and WikiLeaks cartoons for fun.
From Denny: Big government moves soooo slooow like this silly sloth. The Democrats give in to the Republicans protecting the very rich in this country. The problem is that the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts is a not paid for $900 billion two-year gamble in a shaky economy. Not exactly the best odds. Let's hope Obama gets this one right because most economists and the public don't feel confident about it.
Moving right along to the WikiLeaks amusement. This week the WikiLeaks thugs got in a snit with Mastercard, Visa and Paypal for not allowing anyone to donate to WikiLeaks, essentially cutting off a lot of their funding. So, about 40,000 folks downloaded some happy software that took over their computers and basically jammed the servers of Mastercard, Visa and Paypal, shutting down their sites. Why anyone would allow some anonymous site to take over their computer is beyond me. Talk about a personal security nightmare.
Anyway, the word is that WikiLeaks kids are also making mischief on those sites, messing with accounts. Here's a suggestion to WikiLeaks followers: how about tripping on over to all the Big Banks and making like Robin Hood during the holiday season? You could zero out account balances for people in hospital, past due credit cards, house mortgages in foreclosure and the like. Oh, what fun we have on the way to Grandma's for Christmas! :)

Sellout Obama and Bush Tax Cuts Firestorm Angers America
Obama continues to bully a bad tax plan down the throats of America.
President refuses to caucus with his own Democrats, stiff-arms them
From Denny: President Obama continues to refuse to caucus with his own Democratic Party. How illogical and insane is this? Answer: very. For some reason this President has adopted a President Nixon autocratic condescending leadership style of which the Democrats are now thoroughly in revolt.
Black Caucus refuses to support the President
Even the African-American caucus does not support him on this Bush Tax Cuts plan he tried to ram down every one's throat. Obama never consulted with any of his own party but rather this plan just suddenly appeared out of thin air via Obama and his senior advisers who met solely with Republican leadership. Increasingly, the Democratic leadership is abandoning Obama on key issues - like national security.
Democrats part ways with Obama
Here's how the Democratic leadership have gone their own way on current legislation up for vote:

Funny Lite: Roundup of Late Night Jokes and Videos - 8 Dec 2010
Check out how the comedians view WikiLeaks and Santa.
From Denny: WikiLeaks has permeated the world culture - even with comedians. After all, the political and diplomatic spheres are already known for "leaks" so why shouldn't everything else not be "on the table"? From Santa to a Nigerian corrupt government trying to arrest one of America's corrupt politicians, Cheney, the news has been profitable for American comedians ready to tell us a joke - that also happens to be the truth.

Funny WikiLeaks Cartoons
WikiLeaks never fails to entertain and outrage the world. Check out the cartoonists lampooning with glee.
From Denny: I figured since WikiLeaks is busy gathering up interesting government information around the world I might as well round up the best of the funny WikiLeaks cartoons. You know I used to be of the opinion that WikiLeaks founder Assange was just a very odd guy with an arrogance complex who enjoyed dealing in espionage and making a helluva profit at it. After all, all he does is sell the sizzle to his willing wide-eyed followers who believe his scam about justice and morality in the world. Meanwhile, Assange is selling secret information to various governments and stuffing his pockets full of wads of cash. After he makes his profit he releases the rest of the docs, some in public domain, some not as important as he claims.
Like any "secret agent" who decides to become a double or triple agent he is now discovering the scam is getting more and more difficult to maintain. The wear and tear on him has begun to show visibly. He is increasingly more paranoid and disheveled. He is currently running from an Interpol arrest for rape charges in Sweden. His latest act of hubris is to think he can hold the world hostage. Yeah, that's right. This crazy man says he will release even more docs if he is arrested. So, "How dare you arrest me?" is his taunt. Since when did world criminals dictate to anyone?

American and World Politics Cartoons This Week 4 Dec 2010
Lots of tax cuts cartoons to make you laugh - or cry.
From Denny: It appears that the Christmas holiday spirit is not living in Washington or much else in America. Black Friday, that famous holiday shopping day the Friday after Thanksgiving, turned into a Black And Blue Friday. It was a regular free for all all elbows and knees fight riot to get the best sales.
Now with the Democratic hold on the House going out of power in January we have a Lame Duck Congress trying to pass the basics. It looks like a Black And Blue Friday too. Only this time the stakes are far higher. Unemployment insurance benefits are now stopped for millions of Americans who need the meager pay. Why? Because Republican businessmen are too freaking cheap to pay their part of all the huge losses of people they fired for no good reason other than they are addicted to cheap labor overseas.
All our taxes will go up unless Congress gets its act together before January 1st. Right now it does not look like they have come to reasonable terms. In spite of the idiot Slurpee Summit where the Republican and Democratic leadership met with the President not much that's memorable has happened. Except for the fact they all agreed to sound like ditto heads when they came out of the meeting repeating the same lame lines from the scripted moment.
What these politicians should be doing is lowering every one's taxes down to a reasonable 10 percent. As it is the average middle class person bears the burden of the tax rates and tax collections with no way to escape. Think about it. You pay maybe 35 percent federal, then another 15 percent state and then there are other taxes for your county or city and before you know it most of your income is used up. Maybe the smart thing would be to force our politicians into part time employment with no health benefits so they get the idea of how expense all their shenanigans prove to be.
Why tax cuts for the rich should even be controversial is crazy. Even 55 percent of Republican voters do not think that the top 2 percent of the wealthiest should get an extension of the very expensive Bush Tax Cuts.

A Thought poem - Libations Friday 3 Dec 2010
Have you ever thought about the hidden words behind the words spoken out loud?
A Thought
I heard a thought today
spoken with beauty words
and an ugly uncaring heart
it made my heart sink down
and fall with a painful thud
the day traveled on and
then there was a simple man
who spoke his mind and
gave plain words from love
my heart looked up again

Funny Christmas Conversations Story
Do you remember the funny and downright lame excuses your parents used to give you when talking about Santa coming to visit on Christmas Eve? 3 videos.
From Denny: Think back. How much can you remember about the things your parents used to tell you about Santa? This Christmas Eve my husband and I started that conversation. Though we have been married many years there were still some things we did not know about each other.
We laughed about the incredible stories our parents told us on Christmas Eve. It was becoming a contest between whose parents were the most outrageous storytellers. I think my husband’s parents won that contest as his mother was mostly Irish. The Irish have quite the reputation for storytelling even after generations of living in America. Bonnie was highly intelligent, creative, charming and just so endearing that she quickly became my favorite person in his family. She really insisted upon keeping a positive attitude, living the joy of life no matter what was going on around her.
