Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Snowing The Perfect Balance

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Snowing The Perfect Balance: From Denny: The morning was so very perfect, enjoying the falling snow, cuddling into the silence snow brings, that it brought out a snow poem that I combined with the idea of how our perceptions affect our sense of Time.

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: It Isnt In Me

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: It Isnt In Me: "'Love is how we all win'

How to define someone by what they are not. Pivotal moment can prompt you to write

From Denny: I’ve always worked from the inside out. Yet in the West, and especially in America, our culture tends to work from the outside, ignoring the 'inside self' the majority of the time. And we wonder why America is a drug-plagued society with so much emotional and spiritual pain? There isn’t enough loving going around: yourself - as well as the stranger standing next to you!

You can love yourself without resorting to selfishness, stinginess or self-absorption. Just take good care of yourself as much as you would someone you value highly. Your world will improve dramatically when you adopt this philosophy."

A Thought poem - Libations Friday 3 Dec 2010

Have you ever thought about the hidden words behind the words spoken out loud?

A Thought

I heard a thought today
spoken with beauty words
and an ugly uncaring heart
it made my heart sink down

and fall with a painful thud

Lil' Heart Just For You

the day traveled on and
then there was a simple man
who spoke his mind and
gave plain words from love

my heart looked up again

Heart

Love Gift Poem - Libations Friday 14 May 2010

Love Gift

Leaning on the door frame
I saw the birthday party hum.
People in perpetual motion,
Swirling in and out of the kitchen,
Dealing brightly colored paper plates
Like a deck of cards at a poker game,
Landing soft as a feather in front of the cake.
Melting ice cubes chinked as they carried the cups.
The conversation was full of giggles and loud laughs,
Little children running like yard cats circling the table.

The woman of the day celebrated 100 years of her life.
She sat at the head of the table drinking in the sights,
Smiling and nodding as she was kissed and given gifts
By excited relatives, friendly neighbors and well wishers.
She was happy to be so honored and respected.
There was a twinge of sadness hiding behind her smile.
I drifted toward her to offer my congratulations, and,
As I was invited to sit near her, she began to reminisce.
I sat back and just listened as she recounted her long life.
She spoke of history unfolding, family increasing, friends gone.
She seemed happy, settled and content, except for something missed.

I listened to more than her words; I listened deeper into her heart
And she offered up her troubling hurt from since birth.
She revealed in a hushed whisper she was born illegitimate.
Her father abandoned them, shaming her mother, never to return.
She said it was hard to grow up scorned by neighbors and family
And here she is now, all these years later, honored by their descendants.
She remarked how strange Life can be and felt good that times do change.
Yet the harsh memories still haunted; her family did not know her hurt.
She quickly fell silent, spent, and with searching eyes looked into mine.
She probed for acceptance, reassurance and words that felt right.

I held her gaze tenderly and said what I believed to be true.
She started to tremble, half afraid, half excited; she said she felt new.
I told her none of us can control how we come into this world.
What we can control is how we choose to live and love in this world.
Her voice quivered, as she wept next to me, while the party, like her, began to calm.
“For a life time I’ve craved to hear loving words that I was worthy.”
She settled back into her chair and straightened her shoulders with new pride.
Now the smile was genuine, her heart refreshed; she put down her burden to live.
To her family, her friends, her neighbors, the world: that was her Love Gift.

Reflections of That Moment - Libations Friday! 13 Nov 2009

From Denny: With all the tough news and stories of personal tragedies lately - and the stress people are feeling that goes with it - I thought this kind of poem needed a voice today. Friday the 13th is often associated with bad luck and with the economy the way it is there has been a domino effect happening to people because of it.

Tough things happen to us or those close to us in Life and we struggle to regain our balance. Whether it's a job loss or loss of a loved one, there is a grieving process we experience. It's important for yourself and those close to you that you embrace and flow with those emotional waves on your journey, trusting you will arrive at a better place. You will be pleasantly surprised at what awaits you.

Reflections of That Moment

Days of Remembrance always place us in a thoughtful mood…

For thousands of years humanity has marked special days of mourning to remember.

We reflect upon a fateful day when we heard the sad news someone died.

It was a hard knock on the door, shocking our reverie, causing us to fear what came next.

Perhaps the doctor called from the hospital or it was a phone call from a weeping friend.

The one who left us was a member of our family, a neighbor or someone we knew from school years.

Perhaps their lives were cut short in our estimation and their passing made no sense at the time.

Perhaps their lives of service as soldiers or as family, especially in the family of mankind took on a new acute importance with their passing away from our lives.

Perhaps if the one who left us too soon was a child, then we cannot see past the pain to live with only a memory.

We wonder about their bad luck or ours, sometimes feeling guilty we survived when they did not, like in the battle of war or from a car accident or illness.

We wonder inside ourselves; we wonder aloud to friends who have wondered the same.

And as we grieve, we come to think again of Life is maybe not all it originally seemed.

Is there more? Do our loved ones, friends and neighbors still live beyond memories in our hearts?

When our thoughts begin to lay down the grieving and take up the wondering about what lies ahead, we slowly regain our balance.

A smiling thought creeps into our minds from who knows where, “I wonder what they are doing right this minute? Are they having fun?”

It’s at that moment we are connected again to our loved one, though differently than before.

For while we grieved and drowned in the abyss of dark emotions we could not feel the connection.

When we chose to climb out of the abyss it was there we were greeted with new understanding and again felt our strong connection.

Our loved one had been waiting to greet us once more, assuring us all is well.
