The Heart Remembers: Veterans Day poem Libations Thursday 11 Nov 2010

Honoring the life of others as well as our own.

Don't tear love apart. (EXPLORED!)

The Heart Remembers

once a year we remember

those who fell before us.

some fell before we were born

and we never knew them.

some fell in our life time

and we never knew them.

we hear their stories

from the news and family.

we learn about their lives

and how well and good they lived.

this day is often one of sadness,

causing us to pause and think

of what was and what could have been.

and now when I part from a loved one

I always say, “I love you” and

“I am always with you” because

you never know when they will fall

and not be remembered

except in my quiet heart...

Waking The Day poem - Libations Friday 17 Sept 2010

When the day - and I - awaken, present in the moment.

Waking The Day

When I suddenly awakened from the long night’s hot summer sleep
The energizing scent of coffee brewing wafted around the corner.
I stumbled in the dark, bouncing off the doorway, fumbling for the kitchen lights.
I saw cats waiting eagerly at the back door, wide-eyed nocturnal keepers of the yard.

Measuring out fresh food into their three bowls, then wisely throwing open the door.
They looked up at me, measuring me more than their food, wondering how awake,
Hugging the doorway, quietly gliding through the opening instead of their usual burst.
The golden tiger cat squeaked his morning gossip of the neighborhood nightly report.

Steaming dark brown coffee breathed foggy swirls, spilling into the pristine mug.
The hot libation slid down my throat as it gave off its sweet Ethiopian perfume.
Drinking coffee before speaking plays first in the slumbering beginnings at my house.
Glancing at the cats, all lined in a row, they ate heartily as if miners just off a long shift.

I stepped out into the night to view the sparkling stars before they faded to the day.
The sky was astounding in its simple beauty; the love planet Venus the brightest smile.
How could anyone not smile in return when the planets seem to speak lovingly to us?
So many stars, so many messages written in the sky, our Universe speaks unceasingly.

Pouring another offering of coffee, I pulled up a chair on the porch to view the lake.
I could witness early morning on the water a thousand times, never to be disappointed.
Smoke rose on the water, little ghostly fingers walking forward on the mirrored surface.
Three mallard ducks emerged from the mist, swimming my way, dancing long strides.

Huge prehistoric wings filled the air with a swooping sound and blanketed darkness.
A blue heron landed to fish his breakfast, blending into the smoky gray surrounding mist.
Soon a white egret flew in from the east, careful to move down to another fishing hole.
In the dim light a neighbor fished, sitting, pole in hand as his coffee scent filled the air.

Faint pink embers, the growing light, were filling the sky just above the rooftop horizon.
The blue heron stalked the shallows on his long legs, searching the moving warm waters.
A sudden splash, beak dove down, retrieving a huge fish he flung high on to the bank.
The egret caught small fishes, silver glints in the sunlight, tossed into the air, swallowed.

Two cups of coffee later it was time to check back in the house to rouse my husband.
Entering the room, he slumbered peacefully, his breath shallow; I knew he was awake.
The golden tiger cat pounced onto the bed and onto his chest, demanding attention.
His eyes closed, my husband smiled and knew he had not fooled either one of us.

From Jay Leno:

Fertility clinics in England say they are facing a nationwide donor shortage and are looking for international sperm donors. Finally a job Levi Johnston is actually qualified for.

According to U.S. and Iraqi commanders, if the U.S. pulls out of Iraq, their borders will be vulnerable and they won't be able to stop anyone from entering their country. Well, join the club.

President Obama may be willing to meet with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. How does that make the governor of Arizona feel? The president won't meet with her, but a four-foot tall Holocaust-denier in a Members Only jacket? No problem.

The White House is defending President Obama's sports activities over the past week, saying that everyone needs leisure time. Thanks to these economic policies, 9.5 percent of Americans have all the leisure time they need.

The economy is so bad, the Obamas are thinking about taking their next vacation in the United States.

If anyone is looking for a job, there's an opening for a flight attendant at JetBlue. … Steven Slater, the famous JetBlue flight attendant, dropped so many F-bombs on that plane that he got a thumbs up from Joe Biden.

The New Orleans Saints visited the White House. They presented President Obama with a Saints jersey with the number 44, in honor of his approval rating.

A JetBlue flight attendant cursed out passengers, grabbed two beers, slid down the chute and took off. The pilots were furious. Those were their last two beers.

This flight attendant really went crazy. The good news: terrorists are now afraid to fly.

The New Orleans Saints visited the White House yesterday. That's an interesting switch, people from New Orleans visiting a disaster area.

Levi Johnston is running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Ironically, many of the babies he'll kiss on the campaign trail will be his own.

President Obama announced this month that he created 70,000 new jobs. The bad news is, they are all vacation planners for him and his family.

The U.S. Postal Service reported a $3.5 billion loss in the last quarter, which established it as the federal government's most successful enterprise.

Plans are being finalized for Mexico's bicentennial. On Sept. 15, over 70 million Mexicans will celebrate, and that's just in Los Angeles.

From Jimmy Kimmel:

President Obama had a 24-hour vacation on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Some Republicans are attacking him for not staying longer. They have a point. President Bush used to vacation for weeks at a time.

The president was there to promote tourism in the Gulf. He even jumped into the Gulf to prove it was safe. Unfortunately, he did a cannonball right onto a pelican.

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have reaching a custody agreement. Neither of them is allowed to say anything bad about the other parent or the other parent’s family in front of Tripp. So basically nobody is allowed to speak in front of Tripp.

Everyone is talking about Steven Slater, the flight attendant who cursed at a passenger, grabbed two beers, and slid down the escape slide, in what may be the best resignation ever. In fact he's so good at quitting, they're thinking about making him the next governor of Alaska.

It could be the first time in history that someone has been arrested for going down an inflatable slide.

The Mexican Supreme Court ruled that all Mexican states must recognize same-sex marriages registered in Mexico City. So men can now marry in Mexico, but they still can't honeymoon in Arizona.

Levi Johnston is planning to run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. He really is trying as hard as he can to get shot by Sarah Palin, isn't he?

Mel Gibson's father is speaking out, claiming that the Pope is a homosexual. It might be a good time for the whole Gibson family to go to a monastery and take a vow of silence.

Steve Benson

From Craig Ferguson:

In 'The Expendables,' Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger beat up Sylvester Stallone for convincing them to invest in Planet Hollywood.

Schwarzenegger was only in the movie for five minutes, but during that five minutes, he achieved more than in all his years as governor.

When Schwarzenegger heard the title 'The Expendables,' he thought it was in reference to California's teachers.

Health officials in Oregon have shut down a 7-year-old girl's lemonade stand because she didn't have a license. Officials haven't issued a statement yet. They're busy popping balloon animals and stomping on sand castles.

From Jimmy Fallon:

Al-Jazeera's English-speaking channel was nominated for an International Emmy. On the red carpet, Joan Rivers will be like, 'Who are you wearing? And why is it ticking?'

Levi Johnston is running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. The current mayor said Levi Johnston should get his high school diploma and keep his clothes on if he wants to win. And then Levi was like, 'Dude, he just told me how to win. What an idiot.'

Obama Sends Thousands More Jobs Out of America: Mexico

*** Prez Obama tricked by GM to send thousands of jobs out of America and to Mexico.

New GM CEO Dan Akersan is from the Carlyle Group, famous for sending American jobs overseas

From Denny: Here's what is really happening and how the President got snookered by Big Business, namely the auto makers and, in particular, General Motors.

GM just reported their best quarterly profit in six years: $33 billion. Yet they are suddenly changing out their CEO to a guy who is with the Carlyle Group. What is the reputation of the Carlyle Group? These guys are a bunch of snakes. They are known for shipping jobs overseas.

As soon as this new GM CEO, Dan Akerson, was announced GM made a move to create a new plant in Mexico to the tune of a $500 million investment. Those are American jobs getting shipped out of the country yet again by Big Business.

Team Obama did a lousy job and did sloppy negotiations nor did they hold Big Business to the fire to do more than save jobs. They did not get any commitments from the auto industry, namely General Motors and Chrysler, to create jobs. And, so, the American taxpayers who footed the bill for all these bailouts gets the reward of thousands of their jobs getting sent out of the country.

It's time for Team Obama to step up and defend the American worker and take back those jobs - and those tax breaks for American Big Business who stiff arm us. As it is, the jobs that need to be created to get us back to a stable economy is huge: the astounding number of 22 million.

Is Obama A Lame Duck Already? Fire Team Obama to Survive

*** Team Obama is floundering. Time to create a new White House team that is serious about good governing in tough economic times.

Obama presidency becoming a lame duck at a fast pace

From Denny: It looks like Prez Obama is at a crossroads for decision crunch time. Many Presidents find themselves in this uncomfortable position about two years into office when the midterm elections are looming large and look unfavorable. The team that helped get Obama into the White House is not the team who can keep him in the White House. It's clear to everyone in the Democratic Party - and the opposition party as well.

Wrong White House team thinks small and local - not national and international

This presidency looks to be shaping up negatively much like the Carter presidency in one glaring respect: he has hometown people with a small local political mindset trying to run an international government. It isn't working. The Chicago mindset doesn't work any better than the Georgia mindset did decades ago. Mr. President, you and I both know that God Himself has had a "Come to Jesus Meeting" with you for the past week and a half about firing most of your team. Write it on a rock and take it to the bank: if God is keeping you awake at nights telling you what to do and how to do it then get serious and act upon His recommendations. It's called your conscience.

Blood-letting at the White House: Fire Gibbs

It's time for a serious blood-letting at this White House. Lose Press Secretary Gibbs and his Deputy who have done a miserable job of getting out the Democrats' message. They have half-stepped every step of the way, thumbing through the Rove political playbook thinking they can fool their own Democratic voters. Just what drugs are they taking to be so foolish as to think their arrogance does not stick out all over them?

Fire Axelrod, wrong senior advisor

Lose Axelrod and his entire staff as they were the driving force of ruining your popularity. Now they have dug the grave on your entire historic presidency and it is about to be relegated to the history books as a serious negative. Axelrod never served you well from the very beginning.

Fire Emanuel: when the chief of staff has a bad attitude the whole team stinks from the head down

Lose Emanuel and his staff as, well, it's clear Emanuel is emotionally fried and just can't stay in politics anymore on any level. He's cooked; put a fork in him because he is done. When you go around spitting on your own Democrats then you have the arrogance to think "you are too big to fail." Wrong. November elections will prove it too.

Consider Tom Daschle as new chief of staff who can effectively advance your Democratic agenda

Replace Emanuel with former Senator Tom Daschle. Why? Because Daschle is known for several things that the current Team Obama is now lacking: finesse with the opposition party, cleverness in knowing how to outwit the opposition party and, most of all, he understands the whole point of being a politician is to be of service to the people you govern.

Right now you have an entire crew who mocks that honorable philosophy and are just about taking home an easy paycheck. You just can't tolerate that in these dire economic times. Change out the entire team. Let the White House blood-letting begin.

Be presidential: make the hard decisions

If you don't do these hard decisions of people you thought were your friends, then you sure don't need to go looking for enemies for you will have an entire political party of them - just like Jimmy Carter to this day. Are you sure you want to spend the rest of your life in the political out house?

How to clean up this political mess of a presidency

While it's clear that you, Mr. President, never actually figured you would find yourself in this presidency so soon, well, you are here now and it's time to act like a President instead of a political animal. Start governing fast and furious in favor of the middle class and you will have no problem getting re-elected or restoring your popularity.

The negatives will become a distant memory for most people as they will focus upon all the good you managed to accomplish after a rough start in the beginning of your presidency. Today is the day for you to make the hard decisions. You have run out of time with the American people.

Earth to White House: Why You Are Getting Criticized

*** The White House is complaining it is not appreciated enough for what it has done. Here's why fellow Democrats are angry with the President.

Press Secretary Gibbs' Tirade

From Denny: Today there was quite the tirade from Press Secretary Gibbs about how this White House is getting criticized from every angle, especially sectors of its own party. While I can understand Gibbs' "AlaDamnBama" Southern temper, as well as his frustration working in a White House during a time when the country is on its knees, the outburst was not his best moment.

Democratic base is unhappy with corporate-pleasing politicians in their own party

The entire Democratic Party is furious with this White House. Why? Because Obama campaigned on one thing and did not deliver any of it. They make promises that are always in the future instead of in the present. They have put off any real hard-charging agenda to create jobs or arm twist Big Business into doing right by employees. The list is practically endless how Big Business, Big Banks, credit card companies, health care insurance and the rest of the insurance industry have escaped any consequences for their actions. The public option health care was promised during the campaign and never delivered so Americans still over pay for health care.

All of these are pocketbook issues for the average American and we just can't afford to absorb any more expenses for anything. We, in the Gulf Coast region and especially Louisiana, have been absorbing huge rising costs since Hurricane Katrina hit back in August 2005. That's five years of constant hardship along with more piled on recently from the oil spill and a weak economy with huge job losses. And you wonder why you are getting criticized?

Prez Obama worked on bipartisanship with Republicans that has failed with the "Party of No!"

While it is understandable this President meant well to try and bring down the political temperature in Washington by constantly wooing the Republicans, well, clearly it's time to give up the romance after an eighteen month courtship. Republicans will never like a Democratic President, especially a black one which is clear while viewing the increasing rate of their racist hysteria barfing all over America promoted in the Tea Party rallies. As long as people choose to hold onto racism no President is going to win on that front. This country will just have to wait for the racists to die off in this generation.

Iraq War still continues for far too long

But what this President can do is fulfill his promises to his own party who elected him: stop the Iraq War. Is it any wonder that when the President announced the ending of the Iraq War starts on 31 August 2010 that the news story was met with a thud in the media and blogosphere? We have had far too many promises and great speeches from this White House that went three steps forward and then five steps backward. In short, Prez Obama's credibility is on the line. The famous quotation that applies here is this: "What you do thunders so loudly I can't hear what you are saying."

Addressing the stresses of the Iraq War on the troops

Instead of allowing this Iraq War business to drag out yet another eighteen months before all the troops are out of Iraq, rush it up and have them all out by Christmas. No kidding. These troops who have been fighting in Iraq need some serious time out to power down and relieve excessive stress.

In fact, as they come home the military needs to get serious and keep them on base for another six to eight months as they debrief them and get them some serious PTSD counseling before allowing them to go home to their families. Families can be allowed to visit during this transition time - but visit at the base or detention area.

It's important to make sure each and every soldier coming back can handle the stress of transition back into American culture. If you have never lived overseas then you may not understand it takes time to get your head back into the home culture. That process is severely impaired when a person has been at war for years, on several tours of duty.

They could be a menace to themselves, their families and the public if this troop return is not properly handled. Too many of our troops are committing suicide because of the effects of this war. We need to be mindful of their stress and their medical needs when they first arrive - not after the fact when something horrific has occurred.

Afghanistan War

For a time it looks like the Afghan War will have to continue until we route the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Maybe we will get lucky and this Mother Nature flooding will have done a lot of the job for us. It's a lot more difficult to be a rough and tough Taliban guy when you got flooded out, your family is either dead or displaced, relief supplies are unable to get to you because of washed out bridges and roads, you don't have any food and are just trying to survive day to day. This disaster certainly reduces the amount of Taliban supporters and Taliban troops our military will have to fight.

Fast track the end to the Afghan War

Even so, there has to be an early time table on this war too. The American taxpayer is no longer made of money with the majority of the high-paying jobs now outsourced out of America. The American treasury just isn't taking in the big money it once did. Historically, what always bankrupts a country is war, especially long wars like the ones America has fought. What George Bush started Barack Obama needs to finish and finish quickly. The public is weary of war and the devastating effects upon our economy and our psyche. If this President wants the public to get optimistic about what this White House has done to slow the slide of shed jobs, then he has to do something dramatic to give people relief. Constant war just doesn't make for happy people by any one's definition.

Do these Democrats deserve to remain in power?

If this Democratic political team is not mentally tough enough to handle the nation's problems and fulfill what they promised their voters - and keeps whining about not feeling appreciated - then perhaps they should think seriously about abdicating their power. The military in the Iraq and Afghan Wars have been dealing with extreme horrific stress for year after year yet you don't hear them whining when they certainly have earned whining rights. If this White House cannot deal with a mere eighteen months of stress then you are not the leaders you believe yourselves to be.

Time for the federal government to use its power and hire America

The nation is in dire disstress and everyone is looking to you to get your "A" game going in high gear. While it's obvious to everyone that turning around the jobs sector is virtually an impossible job to get done in record time, keeping the word "impossible" in the Democratic vocabulary just does not inspire confidence with the American public. The only way to turn around the jobs sector is for the government to start hiring by the thousands for public works like was done under President Roosevelt during the Great Depression.

Where to find the money for hiring America

Ending the hideously expensive two front wars will supply and free up the funds necessary to put Americans back to work. Yes, it's that simple to be the super hero of the day. Even so, you are still looking at a five to seven year transition for the currently unemployed to be employed long enough to affect the economy positively. It's better than what this White House is facing now: fifteen years before any real recovery.

Rebuild America's infrastructure

Speed up the process by directly hiring the unemployed into government work projects necessary all across the nation. Our infrastructure is groaning under the lack of maintenance and upgrading needs: highways, interstates, lakes, oceans, ports, trains, airports, bridges, energy plants from the coal to electrical to nuclear; the list is long - and I haven't started on the military needs like upgrading the deteriorating Coast Guard fleet that is held together with the equivalent of duct tape.

Time for this White House to invest in fellow Americans: hire them directly

We have the manpower to throw at all these problems if our government will only invest in its own people. The Democrats should not be afraid to invest in our own people, fretting over what the critics will say or do. This White House cannot wait for Big Business to do the job. Our own government must do this job of putting America back to work. It will create buzz. It will create more than hope. It will create a positive atmosphere again for that's what this country is missing: its joy.

Vision of The Gardener Prophet poem - Libations Friday 6 Aug 2010

*** 2012 begins early. Check out a poem of prophecy warning humanity.

Vision of The Gardener Prophet

The gardener stood at the window in the heat of summer
Gazing at the huge weeds growing stronger and larger,
Sprouting up proudly as tall and wide as the shrubs,
Crowding the beauty, smug, knowing they didn’t belong.
What was not theirs they chose to steal and own out of spite.

The gardener felt helpless, unable to tend the garden,
For the summer heat was too strong to work outside.
Day after day the gardener watched the weeds take over,
Praying for the beauty to survive the onslaught and
Then a break, a pouring rain came to drench the garden.

The gardener hurriedly went out into the cooling wet air
And began pulling the shallow roots, those showy weeds.
The gardener prayed as she pulled and threw them away.
The gardener prophet knew these weeds sprung up to stop her work
As she prayed for all the people of the world to do better.

The gardener prophet prayed as she worked, knowing that
“As below on Earth, so above in Heaven,” hoping this garden
Would influence and clean humanity of the great suffering.
She toiled with the stubborn and contentious weeds for hours,
Refusing to give in and allow beauty to wither and die.

Deep in thought, hunting down the very smallest new weeds,
Suddenly she looked up and there was an Angel appearing.
The Angel looked at her work in the garden and said,
“Tell the people their suffering has been heard in Heaven.
The culling of humanity begins not in 2012 but now in 2010.”

The gardener prophet wiped her eyes of the spattered mud.
Patiently, the strong Angel waited for acknowledgement.
“The Universe is speeding up the time table,” the Angel announced.
“Humanity is past due to reach the next level of development.
“Knowledge and wise teaching have spread the world to generations.

“Contentiousness, lack of compassion, greed and stubbornness
“Grow as weeds all over the world in every society and religion.
“Beauty struggles to survive, grow and thrive, yet can wither and die.
“The world is now again too full of those who choose to destroy, not build.
“And now Death comes stalking them two years early to clean the garden.
“Only Beauty is meant to walk the earth and thrive in the garden of Life,”
Spoke the Angel softly, and then the vision slowly faded from the gardener prophet.

Speaker Pelosi Champions Unemployed, Orders House Back From Vacation

*** Speaker Pelosi relentlessly drives hard to pass two important bills: keep teachers in the classrooms and hire the unemployed out of work for two years.

Nancy "Give 'Em Hell" Pelosi takes no prisoners in Congress

From Denny: Go get 'em, Nancy! Now THIS is government at work! "I will be calling the House back into session early next week to save teachers' jobs and help seniors & children," Pelosi said via Twitter this afternoon. From CBS: "The measure extends programs enacted in the stimulus package, with $16 billion for state health care programs and $10 billion to help school boards avoid teacher layoffs."

Two bills: Medicaid, avoid teacher layoffs and funding for longest unemployed

What's going on? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered House members back to work to pass important pending bills, like first to pass a funding package for Medicaid and teachers. There's another bill in the Senate she is also motivating Senators to pass, most notably for the folks known as The 99ers, people who have been out of work for the past two years and no longer receive any unemployment benefits.

Congress was scheduled for an entire month on holiday during August while other Americans face horrific financial and employment struggles. Well, The 99ers got smart and finally organized as a political group. They have threatened to take their case to the polls in November. Now we're talking about getting the attention of lawmakers.

Unemployed for as long as two years: The 99ers

As you read this post, every day there are an additional 50,000 people who fall off the unemployment benefits roll because they no longer qualify after receiving benefits for the duration of 99 weeks. Unemployment is unprecedented in America since 70 years ago during The Great Depression. Big Business continues to insult the American worker, sending their jobs overseas.

Big Business continues to screw over The Middle Class worker

Big Business also imports foreign workers through unchecked visa programs like Microsoft set up with President Bush - and the practice continues today as Prez Obama has not stemmed the tide. That's where all the high tech jobs went: Americans got kicked to the side while foreign workers, willing to work for lower wages and no real benefits, filled the jobs in America. Gee, if billionaire Bill Gates of Microsoft wants to give away half his fortune like he claims, why doesn't he do something about the very mess he created where he displaced thousands of American workers every year for a decade?

Russia paid a visit to Silicon Valley to recruit back their tech people from America

You only had to watch the news a few weeks ago as the Russian President came to America to visit, you guessed it, Russian high tech workers in Silicon Valley. Clearly, Putin is trying to sweet talk the Russians home so they can reverse engineer our American technology for free. The Russian workers were suspicious and fearful of their President trying to woo them back home. Yeah, I would not want to go back to that after living in America either. The problem is that we have plenty of Americans who qualify for those high tech jobs and yet they are denied those same jobs because foreign workers on visa programs are filling them.

New unemployment Senate bill

Introduced by Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democrat, Michigan, and co-sponsored by Senator Charles Schumer, Democrat, New York, is a new bill to finally come to the rescue and help The 99ers. This bill extends unemployment benefits for an additional 20 weeks. They did not leave it at that as they have added incentives to the employers to get motivated to hire those who have been out of work the longest. As it stands, Big Business has ordered employment agencies to reject for consideration interviews anyone who is out of work. In order to get hired a prospective employee must already have a job.

Incentives for employers to hire The 99ers

The Hire Act will be extending tax cuts as well as increase tax cuts for an additional year to those businesses that hire these four to five million people currently out of work for two years. Now THIS is a great idea for jobs creation. Tax incentives + tax breaks = jobs creation. This bill is now called the Americans Want to Work Act.

This just passed the Senate, preserving about 300,000 jobs across America by extending programs in last year's stimulus plan. It passed by the vote of 61 - 39. That was after months of stalling tactics by the heartless Republicans. The House votes on it next week for a final vote to send this bill to the President.

Funny Video: Sarah Palins Geography Song 50 Nifty States

*** Check out comedian Jimmy Kimmel's comments on how Sarah Palin needs a geography lesson.

Too hot in Las Vegas for a Tea Party convention

From Denny: Kimmel has a field day with the usual Palin gaffes that her supporters seem to find so endearing while the rest of us find them confusing. Glad someone knows the code as to what she is really saying.

Kimmel says Palin just plain ignores the dictionary so he decided to mock her for repeated geography gaffes. She didn't even know that Hawaii is America's largest island. Wonder if she knows it's a state...?

So, Kimmel says he envisions Palin - with her mastery of maps - getting together with the crew from "Schoolhouse Rock" for a geography sing along.

Cartoons: American and World Politics, Tea Party - 24 July 2010

*** Check out the latest from the cartoonists this week as they weigh in on the Sherrod unjust firing after they were all set up by Fox News lies. And some Tea Party funnies as a bonus.

Funny Einstein photoshopped as a rocker

From Denny: Talk about a news story that got so many "legs" (as they say in the news biz) that it got up and ran out of the neighborhood: The Unjust Firing of Shirley Sherrod. What this story has is all the right elements. It has injustice at the core of the story at a time when injustice runs rampant in our business world, economy and culture.

It has racial and gender aspects that just prove "the more things change the more they remain the same." Too many women have been waiting for their time of acceptance and to be treated like first class citizens in their own country instead of being treated like second class citizens. What makes it worse is when there are women like the Republicans who join "the masters" and condemn their fellow slaves mindset. Women who turn on other women without hesitation or thought of giving them the benefit of the doubt until the dust settles.

American female culture never has been terribly nice and usually very nasty in how women throw each other under the bus. And American women wonder why most men don't take them seriously enough. The problem is that the women who are serious, thoughtful, energetic about doing more for society and hard-working, like Sherrod, get short shrift because they are lumped in with the common perception of "the destructive maligning woman."

Nothing speaks to acceptance like being given the benefit of the doubt and be allowed the chance to explain the situation after you have been a loyal public servant for decades. Instead, Sherrod was immediately dismissed without a hearing, without a chance to explain the entire situation. More importantly, she was not given a proper investigation. Because she was female it was assumed she was a problem so her own Democrats dumped her unceremoniously. It had less to do with being black as her own President assumed she was guilty without so much as a thought as to maybe she should get a chance for an investigation first before firing.

What also needs to be addressed by the federal government is a return to the media restraint that was in force before 1987. There was a time (yes, it really is true) when everything that marched out onto the airwaves as news had a high standard of proving the veracity of their facts. There was a time when facts were separated from opinion in news stories whether they were on the air or in print. There was a time when every news program was demanded to accurately present both sides of the story.

The standard is to check your news story facts at least three times before running it in print or on the air. Fox News NEVER checks their facts as they are an entertainment network not a news network. After this incident the President needs to kick out Fox News from the White House briefings and to hell with the howling from other press people. They can threaten to not come back and the White House would just be the better off for it. The reality is that all the network news hounds will back down because they all want in on what is going on to deliver their news stories for profit. Obama was foolish to back down the first time when he first took office and wanted to kick out Fox from the White House press briefings. He should have trusted his instincts.

There was a time that people like Rush Limbaugh would have been jailed and heavily fined for the caustic lying he does regularly on the airwaves. Mind you those are supposed to be public airwaves and yet the government continues to give them away for free to blowhard versions of broadcasters like Limbaugh to make millions off of every year. The taxpayer should get a percentage of his earnings every year for his use of the public airwaves.

It's time Congress visit legislation about true privacy as well as the libel laws and update them. We would put an end to the majority of the political character assassination from the Republicans if the Democrats developed some steel spine and created privacy laws to include people running for office and restricted some things that the media can publish about private lives and family members. Maybe they ought to take a look at France's privacy laws.

Political Charade Cartoons

Shirley Sherrod shafted by her own Democrats who refused to investigate before firing her. If they had they would have realized she was the victim of character assassination and totally fabricated lies. This White House actually was foolish enough to take the word of a conservative blogger known for lying on a regular basis. How idiotic was that one?
