Arrest GOP Rep, Cantor For Manipulating Treasury Bond Market During Debt Talks?

Speaker Boehner, left, Whip Cantor, right, photo by Alex Wong, Getty Images
From Denny: Talk about scummy politics. The Dylan Ratigan Show was reporting this week about how Congressman Eric Cantor, R-VA, is betting against the American, even the world, economy.

Remember when he threw a huge hissy fit and stormed out of the debt ceiling budget talks with top Congressional leaders led by VP Joe Biden? Something about that move was so calculated and sure stuck in my memory. Well, it wasn't long before the Universe intersected me with the Information Explanation.

Turns out that Cantor bought shorts in the stock market, betting the Treasury bond prices would go down as a result of the breakdown in debt ceiling talks. So, let me see if I understand this correctly. A top political leader, the number two guy in the House of Representatives, declares the debt ceiling talks are at an impasse.

He refuses to talk - or talk reasonably - for any kind of compromise with the Democrats.  He succeeds at rattling the Wall Street guys, driving down U. S. Treasury bond prices - as well as confidence in the world markets that America will pay its debt.

Cantor makes a truck load of money as his perk for being one of the political leaders in charge of said economy and influencing the debt ceiling talks to tilt his way.  This is an outrage.  This man should be arrested immediately.  The GOP and its leaders are not negotiating in good faith.

Dennys Global Politics: Libya: Rebels Sell Us 1st Oil Production: "From Denny: Sec. of State Hillary Clinton is pleased to report the rebels are producing oil for the West, selling us their first batch. Can it be America has finally found someone willing to repay us for all the blood and money we have spent on them?

What a nice change of pace is this turn of events. My Democrats may finally be getting practical and downright useful instead of useless."

American Revolt: How You Can Break Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil, Big Lobbyists

*** What you can do to break the yoke of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil off your middle class necks.

From Denny: Are you disgusted with your Big Bank credit card company jamming you up with outrageous minimum payment demands, feeing you to death and playing games with variable high interest rates without recourse or punishment for their actions?

Are you fed up with the financial sector Wall Street hyenas' artificially inflated prices at the gas pump?

Are you furious that Big Insurance keeps hiking up your health care premiums and other insurance products?

Are you in a rage that Big Business lobbyists for Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil have a stranglehold on our government?

Are you unemployed and furious that Big Business lobbyists went to great lengths to deny you unemployment benefits extensions to pay your bills and put food on the table because they were too cheap to pay their portion of the benefits?

Want to have the power to do something about it?

Denny's Think Tank and Muffin Monday

Denny's Think Tank, currently comprised of just two people and four Hurricane Katrina cats at our house - however, we are extending free membership to all my dear readers of all 14 blogs - well, we have been busy on the problem and come up with the solution. We like to "solve all the problems of the world" at our house every morning over coffee.

Good ideas seem to evolve from one small act. That small act of mine, as a blogger, began with Muffin Monday recipe segments on the food blogs: Romancing The Chocolate, Unusual 2 Tasty and Comfort Food From Louisiana.

I like muffins. Who doesn't? It's practically unpatriotic not to like muffins. Muffins are easy to make for beginner bakers. Muffins are popular in America, and, as a blogger, I was looking for non-copyright released recipes I could publish easily. Researching there was found a treasure trove of good recipes, ones tweaked - and therefore changed from the originals - from what I realized had been previous Gourmet, Epicurious, Food and Wine and Bon Appetit recipes from the past 20 years. Yes, foodies read too many glossy magazines. It must be the awesome photos. :)

The treasure trove of good recipes was found at various bed and breakfast inn sites so I decided how cool it would be to do more than provide a courtesy link to their business but rather to start promoting them because they are small businesses.

Big Business has run so many small businesses out of business the past 20 years that America has become this boring homogenized vast wasteland of mediocre choices. I've watched wonderful local colorful grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, restaurants and clothing stores all get broken by Big Business just in my area.

Ruthless Big Business continues to break small businesses

The one exception I have to say that behaves better for Big Business is the Whole Foods grocery chain. When they came to Baton Rouge, Louisiana they took a look at the surrounding Mom and Pop grocery stores and did not undercut their prices on matching products they carried. Whole Foods also supports the local farmers and buys up all the fruits, nuts, vegetables and meats they can produce. I'm sure they are not perfect but at least they make a conscious effort not to cause bad economic ripples in the community where they plant themselves.

That said, the vast majority of Big Business is ruthless. Lately, they have gotten just too ruthless by sending thousands of jobs overseas after receiving taxpayer government monies. (That was General Motors, folks, who took our money and then cut 5,000 jobs that went overseas this year.) Big Business continues to think they can cut thousands of jobs, send them overseas and yet there will be people left in our country who can afford to buy their products. What kind of logic is this? The only answer is unadulterated greed - and a CEO who wants to make his quarterly BOB: Big Obscene Bonus.

What you can do to break Big Business

We Americans continue to grouse, complain and outright bitch to our political representatives and the courts only to be lied to, taken advantage of and denied fairness and justice. So, what is a self-respecting American and rabble rouser to do to gain back their power in their own country? Easy. Support ONLY small businesses like these bed and breakfast inns whenever you travel for business or pleasure. Their prices are comparable to Big Business hotel chains and so are the amenities, local attractions and shopping.

The beauty of this strategy of supporting bed and breakfast inns over Big Business hotels is that Big Banks and Big Insurance finance the mortgages on these Big Business hotels. Right now commercial real estate has taken a nose dive, hence, the reason the Big Banks took bailouts from the American taxpayers. In fact, the Big Banks unloaded all their toxic assets - like foreclosed homes and small businesses - onto and for the American government to absorb - in addition to taking billions of dollars plunked down onto their profit line.

World leader fools, minus Obama, from the G20 Meeting who are bankrupting the world economy by rejecting the governmental Spend Money economic model:

Frustration with American politicians

Big Business controls our government on so many levels. We are reduced to waiting for each election cycle in the hopes of throwing out the corrupt politicians. Yet, at the end of the day, the Big Business lobbyists continue to do business in Washington, ignoring the voters' wishes and now desperate needs.

Achilles Heels of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil and Big Lobbyists

The one weakness these powerful behemoths have in common is us. If we all - or at least 15 percent of the country - refuse to do business with them it will destroy their businesses. Most huge companies run on about a two percent to 15 percent profit margin to stay in business. Surprising, isn't it? Auto dealers run on a two percent profit margin. It's the manufacturers who screw them over as small businesses so they pass it on to screw over the customers. It's an ugly cycle.

Facebook BP Protesters Succeeded

Over 300,000 people banned together on Facebook to protest BP gas stations, refusing to buy their product. In my town where we have an Exxon oil refinery, the price of gas is outrageous. BP's prices are often as much as 75 cents higher than Exxon and Shell. People say by protesting BP gas stations you are hurting the American owners. I say, "You lie down with dogs you get fleas." It's time for people to make a choice if they will be truly patriotic and do what helps all of America or keep choosing their profit wallets over the dire straits of the economy.

These BP protesters succeeded in driving down the value of BP's stock to half of what it had been before the oil spill. If we support small businesses and shut out Big Businesses as much as possible we can break their high stock values as well. Think of all the Walmarts that drove out dozens of small businesses.

Originally, from the 30 year old model, Big Businesses like Walmart were supposed to offer better prices to American shoppers. But, over time, those prices have risen and poor quality products from child labor and prisoner inmate labor countries have flooded our markets. The Chinese use prison laborers and give us toxic lead paint toys. India uses child labor to produce rugs and clothing. Meanwhile, our textile factories across America close and thousands of people lost their jobs.

Hope is still here if only we will act and take back our power

The sad stories are endless. But, so also is Hope: endless. We can change things in this country if enough of us will band together and use our power as consumers to break all the Big Businesses. You break the Big Businesses - and the Big Banks who finance them also fall with them. When the Big Business and Big Banks fall then so too do the Big Lobbyists with no one to pay them outrageous money to hijack our government with economic terrorism.

Break Big Banks by moving your checking accounts to small and medium sized banks

Another way to break Big Banks is to move your checking accounts to federal credit unions and other regional and local medium and small sized banks. Only Big Banks get the best interest rates and then they jack up their prices and lend to the medium and small banks, virtually holding them hostage.

So why does the Federal Reserve not give the same great interest prices to the small and medium sized banks? The Fed remains quiet on that one and has in every administration. There is no excuse for it. Big Banks continue to hold a monopoly in our country, strangling the economy with their greedy and unwise practices.

Small Business Employs most of America

Remember, the statistics tell us that somewhere between 70 to 80 percent of Americans work for small businesses. Small businesses also keep the jobs here in America unlike the Big Businesses. It's time to run Big Businesses out of business or succeed in breaking them up into smaller less damaging entities.

Either way the American consumer wins because the small businesses will get more business and have to start hiring the unemployed. Hiring the unemployed will jump start our economy. It will make it possible to rebuild America into a thriving economy. We will no longer be co-dependent upon the whims of Big Business and our corrupt corporate-loving politicians who fawn at their arrogant diva feet.

Obama Cowers to BP: Rejects Super Tankers for Gulf Clean Up

*** From Louisiana blogger Denny Lyon: Bring on the Super Tankers for Gulf Coast oil spill clean up. Obama cowers to BP and accepts reasons not to do massive clean up.

Greenpeace in the UK protesting the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill

From Denny: After a positive appearing and grand standing political show courtesy of the White House on Friday Louisiana and the Gulf Coast is left with this Top Kill nightmare. We all knew the Top Kill method wasn't working when there was no word from BP within 24 hours. We all knew BP wasn't that serious about the Top Kill project when they took an 18 hour break without explanation. Either they ran into serious problems or just didn't want to spend the money. Somehow, 30,000 pounds of concrete doesn't sound like much to plug up the equivalent of an underwater volcano spewing oil. What kind of drop in the bucket insult is this?

BP downplays environmental disaster

Again, BP continues to downplay this environmental disaster, anger Americans, lie to the President and lie to the world about what they are doing. Just today, the Super Tanker idea of creating the equivalent of a floating oil refinery on the Gulf was revisited by Shell Oil CEO. The Gulf Coast residents have desired the Super Tankers get sent out ASAP a month ago and still BP continues to stall the idea. Again, they are being cheap.

BP lies about Super Tankers ability to help control oil spill by clean up

In this video clip, BP gives the lame explanation of it wouldn't work because the oil is coming up from the ocean in several places. These guys have been wrong on every step of this process. Why believe this to be true now? The Super Tankers are used to skim the surface oil from the entire area and separate out the ocean water from the oil. This explanation makes no sense and is just a stalling tactic.

What are Gulf residents supposed to do as their economy slowly dies because they can't make a living from the water any more? Why does this White House continue to not take seriously the prominent issue of oil clean up when they know it will be six months before the possibility of shutting off the oil flow? Whose advice are they taking over common sense?

President's visit to Louisiana on Friday

President Obama came down to Louisiana on Friday. He allocated a mere 30 minutes to local leaders to hear their frustrations. He ended up in a two hour meeting. Why did he not do this over a month ago when the military hierarchy was interfering with common sense emergency relief?

The President getting bad advice from White House advisers and BP

Surely now Mr. Obama now realizes how poorly and ineptly his delegated parties have not served the President. Any kind of Alpha leader would be down here on a weekly basis checking up on progress and breaking log jams of miscommunication, authority turf wars and logistic problems. It would appear that everyone involved in this situation is too cozy with BP.

Again, the President is getting bad advice from his politically motivated Chicago mindset advisers. They just don't see the big picture. This White House is frozen with fear, trying to placate Big Business because they believe they need the money for elections. The fear is so palpable and smells so strong I smell it all the way down here in south Louisiana. To say I'm disappointed in this President and his team is an understatement. They have let us down. They have let down America. They refuse to govern. They are too busy with their eyes on the next election and yet as they do so they are lousy at reading the mood of America.

The only advisor who is serious about safeguarding Americans is Press Secretary Gibbs who practically screams at the President and the team daily, sledgehammering to get past their wall of intense fear of angering Big Business. The one advisor the President should be listening to and acting upon his advice is the one guy who is sidelined by the others. Unbelievable.

Voters poised to bring about real change in America out of disgust

The fact that this White House is frozen about moving forward to make tough decisions and act punitively with Big Business tells me they are not true leaders. I'm sure the Republicans are laughing in their sleeves right about now. What neither political party seems to accept and fully understand is just how furious the American public is with our government.

The country is now poised to lurch to a hard left in their voting they are so disgusted with Washington. The Republicans, all moderates and conservatives, even conservative Democrats will be given the bums rush at the voting polls come November. The President has spit on his base repeatedly and now his left leaning base is putting in new people to push him back onto the path of actually doing something for the middle class.

White House too politically motivated and not governing

This political White House knows this to be true or they would not have tried to sideline Admiral Sestak in his run for the Senate in Pennsylvania. They view him as a threat to run against Obama in 2012. This is where their heads are instead of curing the ills of this country. By the way, gentlemen, Sestak is no threat to you. As a military man he is accustomed to being fanatically loyal to the office of the President. Read that as disciplined to be obedient. He isn't your problem. I'm your problem - and people like me.

Obama's advisers mollify him into complacency by telling him that those Gulf Coast people are just angry about the worsening situation. Again, none of them "get it." Everyone in America is angry with the Obama White House for the half-stepping and tip toeing around Big Business that is constantly costing the middle class their jobs, their lifestyle. Their whole world is crashing down around them while you fiddle with election ideas.

Mr. President, your current political advisers got you into the White House but they are clearly not capable of keeping you there. Either lose them now before your Presidency disintegrates before your eyes or grab a hold of them and put them on another path that is productive.

How ruthless business people operate effectively

Let me share a thought with you, Mr. President, continuing to cower in the corner while Big Business bullies you is not a pretty picture. I choose to differ with your statement that you are in charge for clearly you are not. You should be in charge but clearly by all the constant missteps you and your team still have not taken prove you do not consider this environmental disaster seriously enough. You can be angry at my words all you like. When do you and your team plan to start governing this country on a daily basis?

Here's the low down about ruthless people like the Big Business crowd. You think if you are nice to them then they will cooperate with you. You think if you don't press them then they will reward you with money for elections. You are naive. Do you know what truly ruthless people and business men do?

Here's what they do: The whole time you are making nice they are doing back room deals to bank roll your opposition. The whole time you are cutting sweetheart deals in their favor they are busy bankrolling the elections of any and all opposition. Every time you put up new legislation they hire an army of lobbyists to shoot it down and rewrite it for you. In the end, they also give money to all the politicians. They give money to everyone to hedge their bets, including the Democrats. The object is to spread around the money to see just how much influence and cooperation they can purchase.

The reality is that, in the end, Big Business will bankroll you if you do right by the American people or if you sit in the corner too afraid to lead. Big Business wants what it wants. And what is wants are two things: access to the President and influence over the President.

Time to lead America the right way

Just how long are you going to continue cowering? You are supposed to be the leader of the free world. You are the President. You command a million man army. You have a Congress and more to help you lead. Lead. And lead from the front - not the back of the room.

If you don't step it up beyond your current game your Presidency will be remembered as weak as rainwater: the Lukewarm Presidency. When you try to please everyone you end up looking like a milquetoast kind of guy that nobody likes in the end. It's better to err on the side of the American people and stand up for us over enabling Big Business to run rough shod over the economy and collapse it.

America This Week: World Politics Cartoons and Commentary - 22 May 2010

From Denny: America is definitely in the mood to shoot themselves some politicians, figuratively speaking. Voter anger has shut off the drug drip from the lobbyists to long time puppet politicians. Of course, the million dollar question, literally figured in kickbacks and payoffs, is whether the new group of fresh politicians will end up in the wallets of Big Business interests just like the last batch.

One fresh face just elected in his GOP primary in Kentucky is Rand Paul. This guy is already in the pockets of as many Big Business interests as he can find it seems. Already he has spoken against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - what a piggy racist - because he is crying the blues of all the tough high hurdles Big Business has to do to employ minorities - or women for that matter. You know, that pesky annoying mosquito in the room called ethics in business.

Then Paul goes on to insult everyone on the entire Gulf Coast with crying the blues and pleading the case for BP and how they should not be blamed. This guy would be wise to withdraw from the Senate race before someone takes it into their own hands to tar and feather the guy and run him out of the country. He is truly a case of "Stupid is as Stupid does."

Politics, the Supreme Court, lobbyists and their handlers Big Business - all crazy human behavior and never a dull moment! :)

The usual suspects for sex scandal: Republicans 10 to 1 over Democrats

Tea Party complainers:

Brought to you by Big Business who is lobbying to repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964 so business doesn't have to hire people of color is Weird Rand Paul, the Tea Party's Man of the Racist Hour. He is also proudly standing up for BP in the oil spill and the "rights" of Big Business over American citizens just trying to work a job.

World time-out corners for naughty nations on order from the Good Sense Factory of the Universe:

Loose cannon Iran:

Voter anger in America:

Considering how too much of the media in this country lied and enabled the Bush years they deserve this treatment from Obama. They did not safeguard the Truth and public safety and now it's karmic payback time:

The state of weird in American politics:

Purposely misleading about the level of military service during - not in - the Vietnam War - a huge difference:

Wall Street nasty boys:

One of the few things the current Supreme Court got right: keep the violent sex offenders off the streets and away from America's children. Of course, Justice Thomas decided to take a vacation away from his magazine reading or public naps to suddenly oppose this. Really makes you wonder about the guy even more. It was a 7 - 2 ruling in favor of indefinite sentences for incurable sex offenders who have made a mockery of our judicial and health systems.

One Million Homeowners Walked Away: Can It Kill Our Economy?

From Denny: What I find to be an alarming development that could cascade - and cause our fragile economy to collapse or develop a severe limp - is this new trend of homeowners walking away from devalued homes while they can still afford to pay. It's called "strategic default" and already over one million homeowners have done this. Currently, there are over 11 million homeowners across the nation who are struggling to pay their mortgages.

There is no way the banks can absorb this many toxic assets. Of course, the big banks dug themselves into this hole and refuse to work with homeowners. They haven't even dipped into the huge billions Obama gave them to help restructure mortgage debt.

And you think the BP oil spill is a mess - wait until this real estate walk away spreads past Arizona and California. I simply do not understand why banks are so incredibly stupid. It just goes to the old Louisiana saying, "Greed will bring you to your knees." There is no way the American taxpayers will ever again OK a bailout for any big banks or Wall Street. Our biggest banks like Bank of America and Citibank are setting themselves up to fail.

When this mess finally shakes out there is no telling what our financial landscape will look like in America. Will any of us recognize it? As it is, a recent bill in Congress to break up the big banks was shot down. After another mortgage meltdown that bill might enjoy a serious Come to Jesus Meeting and Resurrection.

Below is an excerpt from the original CBS story. Links to very short video clips worth the viewing are posted on this blog too.

Strategic Default: Walking Away from Mortgages (CBS)

60 Minutes: A Million Have Walked Away; Trend Could Undermine the Fragile Economic Recovery

Despite some indications that the economy is recovering, the housing market remains a disaster area. Currently, about seven million homeowners are behind on their mortgages and that number is only getting worse.

Banks, with the help of the government, are offering some relief to homeowners who've lost jobs and just can't meet their payments.

But there's a growing number who can pay but are simply walking away from houses that are now worth as little as half of what they paid for them.

It's called "strategic default." People have done the math and decided making those monthly payments is just throwing money away, leaving the mortgage holders - the banks - as zookeepers of an ever-growing parade of white elephants.

In the past year it is estimated that at least a million Americans who can afford to stay in their homes simply walked away...

The Southwest has become an inland ocean of bad mortgage debt. In Arizona, a full 50 percent of houses are underwater, and in Nevada it's even worse: 65 percent of houses there are drowning and the rivers are rising.

And it's not just the Southwest: according to CoreLogic, more than 11 million homeowners across the country are underwater. It's estimated that number could double in the next year, which means nearly half of all American mortgage holders will owe more on their homes than those homes are currently worth....

To try and stem the tide of foreclosures, Stevens says the Obama administration has set aside billions to give banks incentive to help struggling and underwater borrowers with their mortgages. But banks have been slow to modify the terms of those loans....

Transocean Kidnapped Oil Rig Survivors, Coerced Signing No Legal Repsonsiblity

From Denny: I knew something wrong was going on about the BP oil rig survivors that we had yet to hear. It just wasn't the usual media coverage about such a huge environmental disaster of this scale. What's the first thing you see on TV but the bright lights of news cameras and microphones shoved into the faces of the survivors? Yet nothing happened for hours and hours after the accident. Nor did we hear from the hospitals or the relatives of these survivors.

Why was that? Because, it turns out, Transocean took it upon themselves to spirit away the survivors under an ominous company paid security guard - not local police - away from hospital treatment, psychiatrists for PTSD treatment, away from family and away from the media. They held the survivors for 15 hours and interrogated them to break their wills while they were in a fragile emotional and mental state. Talk about scumbags of the lowest order.

Lawyers and investigators working for Transocean forced the survivors to sign away their rights to later lawsuits for injury compensation or company responsibility. I'm sure Transocean thinks they accomplished quite a corporate coup here but I say "Hell, No!"

Why? Well, for one thing, if Transocean took any of these survivors to other states that will trigger investigations from the FBI, especially now that the survivors claim they were tricked and taken against their will. They thought they were being taken to the hospital for treatment - not interrogation by company lawyers.

What the attorneys did was keep the survivors out off shore on the water, in boats and on another rig for an additional 15 hours or more immediately after the explosion. The explosion happened at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 April, yet the attorneys did not bring the survivors to shore until 3 a.m. Thursday, 22 April.

From one of the lawyers representing some of the survivors, Houston attorney Kurt Arnold, "They were zipped into private buses, there was security there, there was no press, no lawyers allowed, nothing, no family members. They drove them to this hotel and they escorted them into the back of this hotel, once again under escort."

Transocean purposely wasted many more hours to follow before allowing the survivors to phone loved ones to let them know they were safe.

Well, guess what else, you scumbag Transocean lawyers? If these survivors were held off shore in Louisiana waters within the international mile limit, and these survivors were Louisiana residents, then by Louisiana law it is not possible to sign away their rights, under duress or not. Not unless that law has changed recently. Even if the attorneys took the survivors beyond the international mile limit it does not matter for the the men who were Louisiana residents. It does not matter where they were at the time of the kidnapping. Louisiana law states they cannot sign away their rights no matter what.

For those who were not Louisiana residents, signing under duress is also not recognized by American law. So, Attorney General Holder, when do you plan to throw these Transocean attorneys in jail? They should be prosecuted to the full limit of the law. Taking American citizens hostage and forcing them into an interrogation situation and then coercing them to sign away their rights is as un-American as you can get. At some point citizens expect their government to stand up for their rights.

Big Business to Employees: Get Fired If Get Operation to Prevent Breast Cancer

From Denny: Now if this doesn't make you angry. This woman gets fired because she found out, after testing her DNA, that she had an 80% chance of getting the dreaded breast cancer. So, as a preventative measure, she got a double mastectomy to avoid getting sick.

Now, it turns out, her employee figured they could fire her and save some money on their health insurance premiums. Talk about depraved indifference. Now what were these guys doing violating her privacy in the first place? What has her health condition and DNA have to do with her job performance? Answer: none.

Let's see, just how many laws and sense of decency did this energy company violate? Try the Genetic Information Non-discriminaton Act as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act for starters. Health privacy and human rights should be added to the list. Here we go again, women are being treated like second-class citizens in their own country. When is this garbage going to stop?

As long as there are no laws getting enforced there will be egregious corruption and injustices like this case. Just think of all the cases not brought to court because people are so afraid to make a health claim for fear of getting fired from a job they need to pay their bills. In this state of Louisiana doctors are complaining there is little surgery to be had because people injured on the job work with injuries just to avoid getting laid off.

The real inconvenient truth here is that her employer figured out she was a liability as she was getting closer to age 40 and they wanted to start thinning out the employee herd. They went for the older and sick - or those who possibly would be getting sick in the near future - and started firing them.

As long as our current federal government sits on their hands and does nothing to stem this tide in the work place it will only get worse. So, Mr. President, what do you - and this idiot Senate of inconsiderate destructive jerks - plan to do about it? Women and the entire public are tired of these kinds of constant in-your-face injustices.

Pelosi does her job exceedingly well. She has enough toughness to invite the Republicans once and if they refuse she cuts them out from further negotiations. They hate her and respect her. Reid waffles and rarely does his job, achieving a drop of what the Democratic agenda was supposed to be: helping the middle class.

When are you, Mr. President, going to quit listening to the wrong advisors in your administration that are telling you to go softly on Big Business - effectively telling the middle class "Oh, just eat cake if you are hungry!" Mr. President, quit being mollified by these guys who are telling you to sideline the big reforms and just keep the campaign money rolling into the coffers. This is no way to run a transparent and truly ethical government. Stand up for the middle class and be counted.

Pamela Fink Says She Was Fired After Getting a Double Mastectomy To Prevent Breast Cancer: (ABC) Fink Says Her Doctors Told Her She Had an 80 Percent Chance of Getting Breast Cancer

A Connecticut woman claims she was fired despite years of glowing reports by her employer after she told them she had tested positive for the breast cancer gene and would undergo a double mastecomy as a preventative measure.

"I was a great employee and I did really great work," said Pamela Fink, 39. "The only thing that changed from the time that I had a great review to when I didn't was my two surgeries."

Fink has filed complaints at the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities as well as the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging that she was fired from the Stamford, Conn., company MXenergy because of her genetic testing results.

She is claiming that by doing so, her employer, MXenergy, a natural gas and electricity provider, violated the Genetic Information Nondiscriminaton Act as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Tepid Toyota Reluctant Bride at American Justice Altar

From Denny: Well, it took Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, the grandson of the founder, long enough to figure out he had ticked off 300 million people in the Western Hemisphere. What arrogance to think he could duck out of a Congressional hearing about an unprecendented almost 9 million car recall because of glaring safety issues.

What trust fund baby joy juice was this guy swilling? How long did he think he could continue to deceive and hide safety issues in America? Fortunately, one of his attorneys grew a conscience and revealed that Toyota had been hiding engineering problems for decades. Of course, Toyota fired him for telling the truth. "No good deed goes unpaid," as the saying goes. Millions of people's lives have been at stake for decades and all Toyota could say is, "I'll get around to fixing those problems"? And, "well, you know, all you have to do is take out your floor mat to prevent the accelerator pedal from sticking." Just how stupid do these guys think Americans really are? OK, people did stand by and allow Bush to get into office on not one, but two, stolen elections. Like sheep, stupid about politics, yes - stupid about their cars, no.

He finally agreed to appear before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for the new investigation into the Corolla model compacts with potential steering problems. Currently, Toyota is facing heat from several American government committees: Transportation Department, The House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Oversight Committee.

Funny Editorial Cartoons 7 Nov 2009

From Denny: There was a lot going on this week but health care reform continued to dominate. The public is finally waking up to the tactics of the Republicans and their lobbyists who unceasingly run anti-health care reform TV ads in my state with the usual suspects of scare tactics.

Basically, the cartoons revolved around the concepts of how no one wants to be labelled as a Republican, how the Republicans have deceived us on health care reform, how Obama looks too weak on restraining Big Business, Banks and Wall Street, Hillary on the move dealing with world behavior problems and how perplexed the average American is feeling these days with their lives falling apart.

There were so many good cartoons I'll continue the rest of them on Monday's post with the late night show quips roundup.

How the Republicans are perceived by the American voter on health care:

Gay marriage law died in Maine, one of the most liberal states in the Union. My guess is that while the public is fine with the lifestyle choice they aren't fine with the educational materials that came into the school system of books like Heather Has Two Mommies.

When 1% of the population starts trying to dominate the majority then there will be pushback. Had the gay rights folks not pushed on the majority in such a militant manner they would have already received their equal rights to marriage.

While it's understandable gays don't want hetero lifestyles pushed onto them they have to consider the reverse and not push the gay lifestyle onto the heteros. No one likes to be pushed around or dominated against their will. When people in America on both sides of any political, gender or religious issue finally understand and accept that to be true they might actually create break-throughs for equality legislation that benefits everyone.

Republicans trying to rebuild their political party and can't find any takers. People have abandoned them like rats off a sinking ship.

Many of them finally woke up and realized they had screwed themselves out of a decent paycheck, a regular job and truly lower taxes locally and state wise - because these went through the roof under the Republican Bush years - who threw all the national taxes (which were cheaper to centralize) to the local and state levels.

Under the Democrats the nation pooled their resources and taxes were cheaper on the local and state levels, try 50% less in my area. The average middle class person also paid an additional $5,000 to $7,000 extra national taxes during the Republican Bush years. And these guys have the nerve to scream about how the Democrats are raising taxes?

BTW, voters identifying themselves as Republicans have fallen to a low of only 19% and falling - from a previous 56% during the Bush years.

The average guy's experience when he goes to the bank:

Our Wall Street "buddies" and their "intellectual" business strategies:

Senator LieberBush in the pocket of Republican Big Business lobbyists (Senator Lieberman from Connecticut). Sadly, Lieberman started out in politics as a really decent guy who was doing the right thing by people. He stayed in Washington far too long and was seduced and destroyed by the atmosphere:

Obama's weak attempts to restrain and corral Wall Street, Big Business and Banks:

The never popular Republican Gingrich who was forced to resign as Speaker of the House, who started in politics in 1978 and started America on the destructive course it's been on for the past 30 years: getting rid of all the laws that restrained and regulated Big Business and Banks from raping the taxpayers' wallets and jobs:

This one brings to mind the shock-jocks and diarrhea-mouths of talk radio like Rush:

Climate change fools who just don't get it:

Hillary in Pakistan. I have 3 words to say, Go! Hillary, Go! :)

Ziggy as the average guy who plays by all the rules, votes but gets his vote thrown out by cheaters, goes to war for his country and can't get decent health care or a job when he comes off the battlefield, puts his money in the bank and then gets screwed with excessive interest rates on his credit cards is left wondering who is going to protect him:
