This Weeks Editorial Cartoons 14 Nov 2009

From Denny: A lot going on this week in the news and a wide variety of responses from cartoonists. Health care reform commentary dominated. The GOP is still embroiled in a long-running identity crisis, President Obama still agonizes over decisions about which way to take the Afghanistan War. The tragic Fort Hood shootings happened when an Army psychiatrist experienced a psychotic break and went rogue wounding or killing 60 people. There are a few lighter ones like the Thanksgiving one from Marmaduke and the Mickey Mouse new image. These cartoons really are like a snapshot in time for American culture.

Some feeble attempts from the GOP to reinvigorate their party, putting a new face on it if you will... :)

Health care reform and pending legislation:

Fort Hood shootings:

Obama and tough choices on the Afghanistan War. I can help; get the hell outta there, Mr. President! It isn't your war.

Only one on Veterans Day:

Something a bit lighter in tone for the Thanksgiving season:

Disney decides to revamp the Mickey Mouse image to something cooler:

One last take on health care reform. Yes, I support Speaker Pelosi. You have to take what reform you can cobble together and then send it out into the world. Whining about what you want doesn't move us any closer to reform. Besides, the biggest whiners are those who are unrealistic and seem to forget that the Senate changes any legislation anyway. That's what Senator Ted Kennedy was all about. What the people need to do is write their Senators and bombard them with how they desire the bill to finalize!

Mainly, this cartoon just made me laugh. Pelosi did the best she could get and then cuts and runs for her life, pretty funny!

They Pull at Your Heartstrings Poem - Libations Friday! 6 Nov 2009

*** Is the News really Art? What pulls at your emotions when you watch a news story on television?

From Denny: As I've been catching up posting on all my blogs (too many interests) it struck me as a poem idea to take a look at the News - and if it could actually be classified as a kind of Art.

That's what you get for saturating yourself sifting through and reading too much content as a blogger I guess... :) Your mind goes off onto the weirdest tangents.

And that's why God invented poetry. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. He knew writers needed a condensed form to get out those burning life questions. :)

What's your take on the News as Art?

They Pull at Your Heartstrings

At the end of the day you sit down to watch the news.
There are stories to make you squeamish and uncomfortable.
Stories to horrify, displaying mankind’s depravity…

You sit there watching the world in chaos or harmony.
There are stories to make you feel sad and still more
Stories to make you feel angry with outrage.

You watch the day’s news, wondering if it’s called Art.
All the stories evoke a full range of emotions in a swirl.
There are stories of compassion and charity to make you glad.

You watch from a culture away as girl brides light themselves
Afire to escape abuse from the hands of their loving husbands.
You watch from your comfortable home as your countrymen and women
Give of their hearts and wallets to help children on the other side of the world.

You watch as another culture of women struggles against severe abuse and crimes
To grow strong with confidence, education and smart with new life options
So, one day they are the ones sitting in a comfortable home watching the news,
Waiting for their chance to help someone else a world away, suffering and in need,
Cheering them on to success, praying they experience a long, fruitful life.

Lampooning the News Editorial Cartoons 1 Nov 2009

From Denny: Well, you know those lame pilots would get a scouring this week from the cartoonists. We all find it hard to believe the pilots were just checking duty rosters and personal emails, right... probably watching porn sites as that is the only thing that distracting to overshoot your destination by 90 minutes.

Swine flu vaccine inventories is still low as the various companies in and out of America struggle to produce it in large quantities. It can't be cultured in egg product like most vaccines so the process is far slower. This cartoon is funny as a "Missing" Poster for the vaccine. They ought to do a cartoon of it as MIA as well.

How goes the Afghanistan War? Just today Karzai's challenger, Abdullah Abdullah (who gives their kid the same name twice?), suddenly withdrew from the election runoff. Hmmmm... "do ya think" that Karzai promised him a cut of his brother's drug trade? Guess it worked for him!

George Bush's economy continues careening on a stingy strategy to keep on taking away jobs and health care... while Glenn Beck and RNC bloggers (just ran into one at MyBlogLog today) continue to be pro-life for a fetus and tell the rest of us they "don't care if we live or die, screw you, you don't deserve affordable health care."

Obama and the whining media: Treat them well and they trash you; treat them badly and they respect you (George Bush 101 - well, at least he was good for something!)

Congress and Big Business:

A huge grumbling in America that Obama caters too much to the Republicans who don't vote for anything he proposes anyway nor do they believe in civility:

Speaking of politically obnoxious and disrespecting the voters:

And since today is All Souls Day, what kind of blog would this be without a St. Peter Heaven joke?

This is a bit blurry when blown up to a larger image, it reads: left arrow sign says "wrong religion entrance" and the right arrow sign reads, "right religion entrance." And the angels are saying, "The funny thing is, they never get the joke!"

This Weeks Editorial Cartoons 17 Oct 2009

From Denny: The cartoonists have had plenty to lampoon this week! The ongoing struggle to get decent health insurance without going broke and Wall Street still making record money and breaking the 10,000 mark again indicating nothing has changed.

Fox News still holds the dubious honor of being heralded as the infamous Liars' News (make sure you go to Digg social site and bury every one of their stories just for some Halloween tricking fun!).

The Swine Flu season is upon us way ahead of time and blowhard Rush Limbaugh thinks he can buy an NFL football team. Prez Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize and there is a whole lot of boo-hooing from the jealous spiteful Republicans. The jobs market continues to swing up and down with the dubious economy and one final lampoon at the Iranian regime.

Lots of fun for today "and a good time was had by All!" Enjoy!

Insurance companies and Wall Street:

Battling the Liars Press from Fox News:

Reaction from all peculiar quarters about President Obama awarded the Nobel Peace Prize:

More views on the Afghanistan War:

Rush Limbaugh a.k.a "who you wonder if he is an imitation human being" as surely no one could really be this plastic. No one was too thrilled he was trying to buy a football team this week.
