Comedy Gods Deliver Rape Advocates? Akin 4 Senate, Ryan 4 White House

From Denny:  The Comedy Gods have been busy.  First they struck their magic wands onto the tongue of Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who is running for the Missouri Senate, and caused him to speak his true mind about his definition of what is rape and what is not.

Then the Comedy Gods touched off a firestorm among America's women - and many men - who were resoundingly insulted by his callous ill-informed remarks about the traumatic event of rape.  As usual, these conservatives are also wrong on the medical facts as Akin was quick to quote as if it were true.

OK, a quick recap on what happened in this election year Bonehead Stupid Gaffe.  And, for all the media idiots that thought playing the Devil's Advocate for Rape Advocates, was also an exercise in joining the Dumb and Dumber Club.  Why do reputable news sites hire these despicable fools?

First off, what the Comedy Gods caused Todd Akin to admit out loud:  "First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview. "If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Then other facts came to light  - like the new GOP VP Paul Ryan co-sponsored an ugly bill that decides the definition of rape as to whether it's actually legitimate or not, you know, like if it was forcible rape.  Unbelievable.  Fortunately, that outrageous definition was taken out of the bill.

That parsing of the rape definition was because the Republicans wanted to create a way to deny federal funding to women who were raped.  You see, the Republicans have it in their heads that when a woman is raped she is really just exaggerating about the trauma.  They think their money can be used for better things like another $100 billion aircraft boondoggle.  That's just so much more sexy, right?

Apparently, the religious right conservatives - that has hijacked the Republican Party - takes their medical marching orders from a whack-o doctor.  That doctor makes a lot of money on the pro-life circuit selling his skewed facts about female biology and his perverted opinions.  His name?  Dr. John Willke, who was the former president of the National Right to Life Committee.

In a New York Times interview, Willke claimed, "This [rape] is a traumatic thing -- she's, shall we say, she's uptight," he said of a woman who is being raped. "She is frightened, tight and so on. And sperm, if deposited in her vagina, are less likely to be able to fertilize. The tubes are spastic."
Willke also promoted the fallacy that pregnancy is unlikely because half of rapists "do not deposit sperm in the vagina," either because many rapists aren't fertile and many prefer anal intercourse.
Dr. George Attia, director of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, discounted Willke's views, saying, "This theory simply doesn't make sense.  If the rape happened at a certain of time of the cycle when the woman is fertile, she is going to get pregnant, just like anybody."

There are also over 56,000 other doctors who disagree with Willke.  The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) called Willke's opinion "medically inaccurate, offensive and dangerous."  The reality is that raped women get pregnant at the same percentage as any other women.  The traumatic experience does nothing to contribute to preventing the pregnancy like the Republicans would like to believe.  When are these guys going to wake up from their fantasy land?

This asinine story exploded all over the national news rooms where a number of journalists with some real integrity spoke up and condemned Akin.  If you thought it couldn't become a bigger story, then some dick wad journalist thought he should play The Devil's Advocate and actually stepped up to defend Todd Akin.  He received a resounding beat down on Twitter.

His name was Dave Cantanese of Politico, touching off yet more great articles here and here.  Politico did pull him off the Ryan coverage.  They should send him back down to the minors until he can learn how to be a real human being.

And, if that was not insulting enough to women, along comes some so-called ministers like GOP Mike Huckabee.  He went on and on about how many wonderful people are the product of rape.  He said they really made something of their lives in spite of their beginnings.

What drugs is this insensitive guy on?  He is implicating that all women are nothing but breeders whose duty it is to give birth via the GOP will.  Women are not first class human beings, according to this ugly view.  America might as well be the new Taliban.  More accurate:  the Republican Party is the American Taliban.

Then some of the media decides to interview the Missouri Republicans to take their pulse on whether they will continue to support Akin after this vile gaffe of inner truthfulness.  Some Missouri Republicans are actually second-guessing their vote.  Ya think?

Can this story get any more bizarre?  A married couple, who are retired public school teachers, Steven and Carolyn Sipes, are also GOP committee members who voted for Akin in the primary.  Turns out that Carolyn is shaken by Akin's opinion and has decided to do some soul-searching prayer to see if she should still give her vote to Akin.

Her husband Steven?  He is of the opinion that the Republicans would have a better chance at unseating Democrat Claire McCaskill if Akin bowed out of the race because of all the negative publicity.  But get this declaration, "If he decides to stay in, I'll back him to the hilt."  Dumb and dumber.

Steven Sipes' view echoes the halls of the Pentagon when it comes to women's issues.  The Pentagon has an equally insensitive attitude toward women, ultra-conservative political opinions and policies about women raped in the military.  They have done little to alleviate the suffering that has existed for decades and two generations of women.

What is really at issue here is how every generation of women faces the same fear of rape from the time she is born to the day she dies.  Every waking hour of every day, year after year, decade after decade, a woman has to be on watch to avoid rape.  A woman is forever on alert because of poor training in society and this pervasive bad attitude toward women in America and around the world.  These kind of men sentence their own wives, daughters, mothers, grandmothers and female friends to a life of ever-constant vigilance.

And the last thing women need are the nasty idiots from the clueless right wing - The American Taliban - demanding that women suck it up and just take it.  We aren't going to take it any more.  Consider the status quo challenged, boys.  You just handed President Obama a second term.
